i would try to not hold back so much in your colors. everything looks very muted and muddy. be bolder w/ your color choices. maybe use fewer hues and choose ones that are closer in value.
also, you should try to make use of scale and placement on the page. the sense of storytelling and hirearchy is lost. i don't think putting our character in the center of the page is communicating as much as it could.
